St Thomas, the second largest US Virgin Island, has approximately 40 beaches. So how do you decide which of the many St Thomas beaches is best for you? We recently spend a week in St. Thomas and visited most of the top-rated beaches and found many of them to be special for different reasons with variations in amenities, accessibility, and views.

1. Best St Thomas Beach for Small Children
There is a reason Magens Bay is one of the most popular beaches in St. Thomas. The beach is quite long and scattered with chairs, picnic tables, and plenty of shady palm trees. We arrived after the first cruise ship and had no problem finding a shady spot to put down our beach blanket. The bay is in a protected inlet with calm water. Little ones don’t need to worry about getting knocked over by strong currents or big waves.
There is also a grill and full bar serving up basic fare like pizzas, burgers, and hotdogs in addition to local cuisine specials. It’s easy to spend the whole day relaxing in the sun and floating in the crystal-clear bath temperature water. The snorkeling is just okay. We saw a few fish, squid, and turtles. There is a large facility with bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms to rinse of the sand after a long day playing in the water. Just be aware the showers are salt water. The website also advertises hiking trails, but we did not explore this option. There is a $5pp entry fee plus $2 per parking.
